Shaker Shares is a philanthropic outreach program established by the Shaker Foundation that empowers Shaker employees to give back to the community by collaborating and raising awareness of and funds for organizations close to their hearts. It’s truly a special way to reach out – we partner internally, and unite to give back to the community.
Each month, Shaker employees can nominate a charity for Foundation support. A volunteer committee of Shaker employees, named “charity ambassadors,” selects one charity from several employee nominations each month and raises funds by hosting a weekly fun activity like selling open-toe shoe passes or raffling off an employee free day. Shaker matches all the employee donations for the activity. Once a month, employees are encouraged to participate in activities to “earn” extra money for the charity – from bowling, to basketball, to bean bag tossing, to hula-hooping, to feather balancing, to…well, the list goes on.
Some past charities have included: The Fisher Houses, which are the “Ronald McDonald Homes” for military hospitals; the Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Association; The House of The Good Shepherd, a foster home for troubled children and families; Angel Flight, an organization that arranges free air transportation in response to healthcare and other compelling human needs; The Foundation Fighting Blindness; and Misericordia, which supports 550 children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities.
