Assuming the mantle of President from his father and agency founder, Joseph R. Shaker, in 2000, Joe built Shaker Recruitment Advertising & Communications into one of the largest, independently owned recruitment advertising agencies in the nation, expanding its core capabilities and leading it into the digital age. From his childhood, Joe was intimately involved with the inner workings of his father’s company, joining the agency formally upon graduation from Marquette University.
He was responsible for the agency’s largest wins in his early years as an Account Executive and quickly became a leading industry voice. Joe has been frequently quoted in print and online media, from Classified Intelligence and Reuters to Crain’s Chicago Business and Ad Age. He is also the founder of a U.S. trade association for Recruitment Advertising Agencies.
As agency President, Joe spent much of his time studying industry trends, investigating new business opportunities, and collaborating with his son. Joe Shaker Jr. on setting and refining business strategy.
Joe is also deeply involved in philanthropic ventures, especially with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For more than three decades, Joe has been an active board member of ALSAC, the fundraising arm of St. Jude, serving for a season as the board’s Chairman. He also spearheads the Shaker Family Foundation, which extends a helping hand to those in need through a variety of select charities.
Throughout his tenure, he has honored and nurtured his father’s legacy, and as the agency gradually transitions to the third generation of Shakers, Joe’s commitment to delivering superior and mutually beneficial agency/client partnerships remains central to our vision. In his limited free time, Joe loves playing doting grandfather to his three grandchildren.
